Practice History
Rittenhouse Psychiatric Associates is a private practice of Psychiatry that was founded in 2012 by Dr. Chris Pagnani, after he completed his training at The Johns Hopkins Hospital for their Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. Since 2012, Dr. Pagnani has served as an Instructor at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, and has also focused his attention on private practice Psychiatry (originally in the Philadelphia area). The practice’s mission is to provide quality psychiatric care, by extremely well trained and qualified providers, who are academically oriented, practice holistic and evidenced-based psychiatric treatment, and are conscientious about the prescription of psychiatric medication. Many of our providers currently teach, or have taught, at The University of Pennsylvania, Johns Hopkins Hospital or similar institutions.
Dr. Pagnani noticed during the Covid-19 pandemic, that large companies (in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and throughout the US) were offering telemedicine psychiatric appointments at a rapidly growing pace, but he was (and still is) very concerned about the manner in which many of them choose to do so. For example, he saw advertisements for “short evaluations,” “5 minute on-line surveys,” and even “subscription plans” for psychiatric medications. Psychiatry is extremely complex, and we do not believe that a thorough psychiatric evaluation can be completed in less than an hour (let alone via a “check the boxes” on-line survey).
Psychiatry is not one-size-fits all, and it is a mental health provider’s job, to deliver thoughtful, thorough and conscientious care, with the goal of always acting in the patient’s best medical interest. All this to say, that we are expanding our psychiatric services to Pittsburgh, Allegheny county and throughout PA, so that we can deliver this type of thorough, thoughtful and conscientious care to its residents, when treating their anxiety, depression, mood disorders, ADHD or other psychiatric difficulties.
Rittenhouse Psychiatric Associates, Additional Information
We are a fee-for-service psychiatric practice, and do not accept insurance directly. We will provide patients with a receipt for their visits, as many individuals can obtain reimbursement for a percentage of our services, through their insurance company. Patients can call the member services on the back of their insurance card, and ask about out-of-network behavioral health reimbursements. They can also call our office to discuss.
We treat moderate severities of psychiatric illness. As we offer Telehealth services, we are unable to offer
appointments to individuals with a history of recent psychosis, recent (or multiple) inpatient psychiatric admissions or suicide attempts – as for safety reasons those individuals may benefit from providers with hospital admitting privileges, consistent in-office visits and 24-7 emergency coverage.
