Child, Adolescent and Adult Outpatient Services are available both in-office at our various locations, and virtually, via HIPAA compliant Telehealth appointments. Appointments are typically available within 2 weeks.

There are hundreds of psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners and psychologists throughout the states that we serve. Telehealth has increased the access of mental health care for many, but increased options can complicate the process of finding the right provider for your individual needs.

Our Telehealth Psychiatrists & Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners are Board-Certified, trained at the top Psychiatric Hospitals in the Country, Academically Oriented and focused on patient care.

Drs. Spano and Rannazzisi are licensed Psychologists who can treat patients in most US states via PSYPACT licensing.

Emily Bernstein, MD provides virtual psychiatric appointments throughout PA, NJ, DE and NY.

Increased options also allow for a wide variability in the quality of actual psychiatric care. Rittenhouse Psychiatric Associates strives to provide the most thorough, thoughtful, evidenced-based and holistic mental healthcare available. Many psychiatric practices offering telemedicine, operate in a very different way (for example, advertising “short visits” and “subscription plans).” Others, advertise one specific treatment, as if they’re selling a vitamin or supplement to the masses. That is not how we practice medicine. We believe that those practices can actually be dangerous, especially when those companies are prescribing controlled substances.

What is Telehealth (Virtual visit) Psychiatry?

Telehealth or Virtual Visit healthcare, is healthcare provided by any means other than a face-to-face visit. In Telehealth services, medical and mental health information is used for diagnosis, consultation, treatment, therapy, follow-up and education. Telephone consultation, videoconferencing, email, robotic text appointment reminders and the use of patient portals are all considered Telehealth services.

While face-to-face appointments at our various locations may be convenient for many, patients living in more remote areas within the states that we serve, may have difficulty accessing our services. Rittenhouse Psychiatric Associates wanted to meet the needs of these populations and has begun offering HIPAA compliant virtual Mental Health appointments (initial Psychiatric evaluations, medication management appointments and therapy) for individuals who would benefit from this service. Our group has invested in Virtual appointment software that is HIPAA compliant, and easy for patients to use.

Gracie Yeo, MD. Rittenhouse Psychiatric Associates provides in-office and virtual psychiatric visits throughout PA and NJ.

Are there Specific Regulations for Telehealth Virtual Psychiatric Appointments?

There are specific rules and regulations that pertain to how Telehealth visits can be conducted. For example, providers must be licensed by the state medical or nursing board, where they are both physically located for their patient visit, and where the patient is physically located, for the same visit. All prescribers at Rittenhouse Psychiatric Associates are licensed in the State of Pennsylvania (and thus, we can serve Pennsylvanians living throughout the entire state) and many of our providers are also licensed in New Jersey, Florida, New York, Delaware, California, Maryland, Massachusetts and other states.

There may also be specific regulations by state and federal governing bodies, regarding the prescription of certain medications by way of virtual psychiatric appointments. Our mental health practice also may have specific rules that apply to virtual visits. Call to discuss your specific state and scenario.

What considerations should I make, before making a Telehealth Appointment?

It is important for patients to be aware of potential drawbacks to virtual visits, when making the decision to set up an appointment.  For example, technical issues (on both the provider’s and patient’s ends) can affect psychiatric visits. When this occurs, visits are transitioned to phone appointments. Another potential issue, is that providers may be less able to read body language, check vital signs, or assess for physical symptoms of medical or mental illness. It is very important that anyone considering Telehealth or Virtual Psychiatric appointments at Rittenhouse Psychiatric Associates reviews our Telehealth Consent form and fully discusses appropriateness of care, with our scheduling team.

One additional important consideration (when choosing types of providers), is that if a patient has a history of recent inpatient psychiatric admissions, psychosis, suicide attempts or suicidal ideation with a specific plan, they would likely benefit from seeing a provider face-to-face for safety purposes (and thus, we will not be able to accommodate virtual visits for these individuals at this time). For these individuals, we would highly recommend seeing a local provider, who not only can have face-to-face appointments, but also has admitting privileges at local hospitals, near their homes.

Are you accepting new patients, and is there a waiting list?

We ARE accepting new patients and appointments are typically available within 1-2 weeks for most child, adolescent and adult psychiatric services.

Do you accept insurance?

Rittenhouse Psychiatric Associates is a fee-for-service (out-of-network) psychiatric practice and does not accept insurance directly.  Many patients are surprised to find out that they may be able to submit our receipts to their insurance company, for partial reimbursement of our services. We recommend that patients call their insurance company and ask if they have “out-of-network” behavioral health reimbursement. Our receipts are automatically generated for patients, and our scheduling assistants can answer additional questions. After reimbursement, visit costs for our services may be similar to a co-pay cost for using in-network providers.

Why Choose Rittenhouse Psychiatric Associates?

Our providers are experts in the field of Psychiatry; Most have had academic appointments at teaching hospitals, many currently teach or supervise at Johns Hopkins, The University of Pennsylvania or similar institutions, and most are published within the medical field. We are conscientious about the over-prescription of medications, and provide thorough and holistic treatment plans for patients, taking into consideration a patient’s illness, life experiences, personality and behaviors. We have providers who are subspecialized within psychiatry, allowing our providers to treat a wide range of psychiatric illness, and creating an academic environment for case discussion and continued education for our providers. We strive to provide the highest quality mental health care – which is exactly what you deserve.
